Superman's Bald Nemesis First Appears (No, it's not Luthor)!
Superman reviews - celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Man of Steel!
Review of the Superman story only:
In this issue of Action Comics, Superman takes on a protection racket called 'The Cab Protective League'. On his morning cab ride, Clark's taxi is rammed by another cab. In the ensuing scuffle between cabbies, Clark learns that it was an attack by the Cab Protective League on an independent driver. He investigates and destroys the racket, sending the head man, Reynolds to Sing Sing. But Reynolds escapes and then Superman learns that Reynolds' Cab Protective League is just one operation in a large criminal empire overseen by The Ultra-Humanite!
Superman takes on his first arch-nemesis supervillain here. We also learn that Superman is vulnerable to (at least he believes he's vulnerable to) fire.
Interesting more for its historical significance than the story itself, but probably an issue that should be on any Superman fan's reading list.
