Super D***!
Superman reviews - celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Man of Steel!
Review of the Superman story only:
If Superman's actions last issue crossed the line, his actions in this issue are so far past the line that you can't even see the line anymore. He pretty much acts like a super d***!
It might be a little excusable / understandable considering a friend of his is killed by a reckless driver, but his self declared 'war on reckless driving' in this issue would put him squarely in super villain territory by today's standards. Among other things he:
- smashes into a radio station and endangers and threatens those who work there just to broadcast his message
- resists arrest causing more property damage to innocent third parties in the process
- destroys a used car dealer's entire fleet when he deems the vehicles too dangerous
- threatens and harasses traffic violators
- kidnaps, threatens and endangers THE MAYOR!
- and stands idly by as a police officer commits an act of brutality
There were other minor problems here too, such as who in the city wouldn't recognize Superman in costume by now? But really the biggest problem is Superman running around endangering people and destroying stuff.
I'm going to chalk this up to Superman acting out of grief and rage, but really... Jerry Siegel - what were you thinking?
