A Groovy Start to a Far Out Series

As someone who isn't really a hardcore Wonder Woman fan and never saw this show this series might be a bit odd for me to be getting. But the way this started was that the comics for the Flash, Arrow and Smallville shows were so good that with those favorable odds it made me take a chance on a series like Batman '66 (A character I'm not to fond of currently). It was there that the campy bug bit me and I craved it. So when I heard about this series being announced I knew I was gonna buy it.

    66 vs 77

One of the things Andreyko set out to do was be true to the series but not go overboard, and it shows. This series has just the right amount of campy to not make it cringe worthy. Batman 66 is so campy that I feel like I read it cus it's a train wreck, it's hard to not look. From the looks of it, this series will have arcs or at the very least have stories that will take place in more than one issue. That also sets it apart from it's 66 counterpart. While I don't expect grand arcs like in Smallville, I hope the arcs in this series are fun and wacky, but no too wacky.

    That 70's comic

The artist seems to have captured the 70's look real well. The scenery, technology and fashion all ooze the 70's. One of the things I love about Batman 66 is how things look (Batmobile, Batcopter, Batboat). This series might not have all those gizmos and gadgets, but I love the 70's and the fashion/area designs in this book are amazing. The artist even snuck in a person in the club using cocaine.

    The Cast

Having never watched the show, I know very little about how these characters acted in that show. But from what I see I really love the dynamic between Steve and Diana. Steve especially is the stereotypical charmer that was common in 70's shows. Diana is he campy element in this series. Her excuses to Steve and her dialogue as Wonder Woman are what's campy about this series... and I love it. The campy elements in this series are what make it so charming to me.

    The Story

This issue was pretty much setting up the arc. I can't say much. It was fun, the art was great, the introduction the the villain and the characters was well done (for this type of series). Overall a really enjoyable issue.

    Thoughts

I'm really digging this vibe and I enjoy it more than Batman 66. I look forward to more from this series.

    Rating- 8/10
