@scuzz2.0: It's a little silly but If you think about it in the right terms its not too far fetched (at least no more than men from Krypton). First the GLC have post-light speed travel capability, like, massively post light speed. Whether that involves going through worm holes at some point or just having "hyper-drives" in the rings, it doesn't matter, you decide. Second, the guardian are SO INCREDIBLY OLD they've had time to map out a great deal of the universe from the center outwards. We can assume they increase their awareness of the known universe equally and spherically from the center. This means that they don't have to actually have the entire universe mapped and patrolled, just what they consider the known universe (which all our heroes and characters happen to be within). Third, life in the universe isn't overly abundant. In any particular galaxy there might only be a handful of star systems supporting life. Some might have a lot more and some might have none at all. So, while our GLs have a huge amount of planets and civilizations to patrol, it's nothing that 7200 can't handle. In fact, we don't really have any reason to believe that the DCU even has more than 7200 planets in it sustaining life. Fourth, and finally, the guardians have some super science which allows them to observe (in real time) in some fashion the amount of the universe which they have mapped. Since all these location are mapped and observable from Oa, coupled with the fact that all the GLs can travel through the cosmos at super-post light speed, it makes sense that they are able to get anywhere they are needed and effectively patrol the "known universe." Hope that helps you, it certainly does me :) It's not exactly scientifically sound, but there's some logic to it.
