One crucial characteristic about Joe Dredd is that he isn't very good with downtime.  In fact, it's very hard to imagine Dredd having a life outside of his work.  Early episodes that included a cleaning lady (Maria) and Walter the Wobot soon disappeared perhaps because the creators realised that  it was very difficult to give Dredd a believable personal life - his mantra is that everything that he is should be about upholding the law.  One way this was accentuated from the early days was that when Dredd was relaxing he liked to read Books of the Law.  Therefore it's perhaps appropriate that Dredd should undertake this most anal of hobbies whilst seated on the throne in a great cover by Cliff Robinson.  I love the fact that the cubicle that Dredd has chosen is pretty disgusting, highlighting Mega City One's plumbing difficulties.
