    SPIDER-ISLAND TIE IN! You loved it when Herc dressed up as Thor, but can you handle the senses-shattering debut of... THE INCREDIBLE SPIDER-HERC?!?! And versus… THE X-MEN??? Though he is the newly self-appointed protector of Brooklyn, when a rash of unusual occurrences begin breaking out in Manhattan, Hercules finds himself "infested" with Spider-Powers of his own. Unfortunately, our web-slinging former demigod soon finds himself under the thrall of the insidious intelligence behind Spider Island and in a duel to the death against fellow champions The X-Men. Greg Pak and Fred Van Lente join up with artist June Brigman to deliver a pulse-pounding, wall-crawling [!!!] adventure with Marvel’s lovable lug, HERC!

    I loved Pak & Van Lente's full run on "The Incredible Hercules". I was intrigued with the pitch for this continuation now that Herc lost his powers. And yet... this relaunch has royally failed to recapture the magic of the prior Hercules title. Coming from the same writing team, I'm really not sure why (unless it's just the lack of Herc's foil Amadeus Cho).This title, which I hear is ending with #10, has been plagued with crossovers.     Herc is so Silver Age.I don't like the Silver Age. Here's why: comics are a visual medium. Silver Age writers tended to forget that and over-wrote all the time. Their books were full of long descriptions about precisely what's going on in the panel and super-clumsy dialogue over-explaining everything. Just everything about this book is so poorly written. Just because the X-Men are not Herc mainstays, do we really have to be burdened with reading about how Wolverine has a healing factor? WHO DOES...

    I thought I heard recently on the CV podcast that Herc is getting cancelled. It's no wonder - he seems like something out of the Silver Age or Golden Age. I mean, really who wants the actual mythical Hercules as a comic book hero? He almost seems to be a Marvel Wonder Woman expt from the silver age that was brought out again in hopes that Spider-Island Fairy Dust will make people want to read it like Chiang-Shi and Cloak and Dagger.Unfortunately the story's pretty dumb and the characters are ann...
