The creature that gives Horatio his powers has tightened it's grip. Nexus has become the one thing he most feared, a cold blooded killing machine. He retreats to his inner sanctum with Ursula and his twin daughters, and he will speak to no one. Judah and Dave go to Mars to convince Sundra to return with them to Ylum in order to help them break the creature's control of Nexus. They return to find Kreed barring the doors to Nexus' chambers. Judah beats Kreed in a fight and forces open the doors, allowing Sundra enough time to dive down a secret hatchway in the bottom of Nexus' tank. After a long slide to the middle of Ylum, Sundra comes face to face with The Merk.
