Overview
The latest offering from the Marvel Knights line. Guest-starring the Fantastic Four!
For untold years Norrin Radd has surfed the galaxy, exploring the darkness between stars, witnessing the rise and fall of vast civilizations. Now his ride is about to come to an end. It starts with a small spot -- a blemish that will spread until he is no more. Until then, the Silver Surfer would undertake his final voyage -- to the one destination that has always eluded him. His journey starts where it began.
The Silver Surfer flies through space reflecting on everything he's seen. He heads back to Earth where Reed is working in his lab (as usual) and Ben and Johnny bicker. Johnny notices that they have a visitor waiting outside. The Silver Surfer is waiting to speak with Reed. He wants to speak to him alone but allows Sue to be there. As Ben and Johnny look back, they see a horrified look appear on Sue's face.
Reed and the Surfer have been in his lab for two days. Sue has been crying non-stop. Reed conducts painful tests repeatedly on him to be sure of the results. Later Reed is talking to Sue. It seems that the Silver Surfer's shell that has protected him from radiation and cosmic rays is deteriorating.
The Silver Surfer reflects on when he first met Galactus. Galactus was going to feed off the energy of his home planet, Zenn-La. He managed to convince Galactus to spare the planet in return for him becoming his herald. He thinks about how his memory and conscience were erased and he had a part in the destruction and death of billions. It wasn't until they arrived at Earth, where seeing the determination of the Earthlings and the bravery of the Fantastic Four, that he decided to stand against his master.
The Surfer tells Reed and Sue that he plans on traveling around Earth for a little bit before heading back to Zenn-La. He tells them not to be sad for him. He says that if it wasn't for meeting them, he wouldn't have re-discovered his true self.
After he leaves, Sue asks Reed what he told the Surfer. He told him that he has three weeks, maybe a month. The Silver Surfer says that there are butterflies on Earth that only live for two weeks. To them that is a lifetime. If he has a month, that is the same as two lifetimes.
